MDMA-Asssisted Psychological Treatment for PTSD
MDMA is a drug that affects a number of chemicals in the brain, including ones that may help PTSD sufferers. Preliminary research has shown that MDMA may be effective, when combined with some psychological therapies, at reducing symptoms in PTSD sufferers who have not benefitted significantly from other forms of treatment. Members of the Traumatic Stress Research Group, led by Dr Mat Hoskins, are working with the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) to deliver a study of the safety and effect of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for the treatment of severe PTSD across a number of countries in Europe. It is hoped that this study will open in Cardiff during 2019.
